About The Position

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join an inpatient acute care rehabilitation team within a hospital setting. The COTA will work collaboratively with occupational therapists and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to provide rehabilitative care to patients across various levels of acuity. The ideal candidate will have acute care hospital experience and the ability to support patients with a wide range of medical and neurological conditions.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Occupational Therapy Assisting required
  • Minimum of 1 year of COTA experience in an acute care hospital setting required
  • Strong communication, patient care, and teamwork skills required
  • Ability to work effectively with medically complex patients across varying acuity levels
  • Current Indiana Occupational Therapy Assistant License required
  • Current NBCOT Certification required
  • Current BLS Certification required

Nice To Haves

  • Cerner EMR experience preferred
  • Experience working within inpatient rehabilitation or acute care settings preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide occupational therapy treatment services under the direction of a licensed Occupational Therapist
  • Assist with implementing individualized treatment plans and plans of care
  • Support patients with activities of daily living (ADL) training and functional mobility activities
  • Facilitate therapeutic exercises and therapeutic activities designed to improve strength, mobility, and functional independence
  • Work with patients across multiple care settings including ICU and progressive care units
  • Treat patients with diagnoses including: CABG and cardiac procedures, Stroke and traumatic brain injury (TBI), Joint replacements and fracture repairs, Respiratory illnesses, Dementia, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease, Mobility and ambulation limitations
  • Monitor patient progress and communicate updates to the Occupational Therapist and healthcare team
  • Assist with discharge planning recommendations and patient/family education
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record system
  • Follow infection control, patient safety, and rehabilitation best practices
