About The Position

Right at Home is a growing, locally owned home health company in Waterloo. We currently provide skilled nursing, companionship and personal cares for a wide variety of clients in Eastern Iowa. We proudly provide these services to veterans, and we are in need of a part-time Occupational Therapist Assistant to expand the level of skilled care available to them. The Occupational Therapist Assistant provides occupational therapy treatment to clients in accordance with an established plan of care by an Occupational Therapist in accordance with Agency policies and procedures and all other state laws and relevant professional standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.
  • Currently licensed and in good standing as an Occupational Therapist Assistant in this State.
  • Knowledge and ability and the necessary skill and judgment to perform all rehabilitation related procedures as outlined in the scope of practice in the State of Iowa.
  • Understanding of the working team concept and the ability to work as a team yet also autonomously in clients’ homes.
  • Meets the requirements for employees providing direct client care.
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English as needed in the job.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and use of an insured automobile for work or access to adequate transportation.
  • Participates in continuing education programs as mandated by State law. (This requirement need not be met exclusively through Right at Home sponsored in-service programs.)

Responsibilities

  • Furnishes occupational therapy services in accordance with Agency policies, Joint Commission standards, Medicare regulations, and the State of Iowa.
  • Prepares and records clinical notes and care notes in WellSky and Careficient.
  • Observes and reports any signs or symptoms indicative of changes in the condition of the client and family situation to the supervising Occupational Therapist and/or Clinical Manager and documents such reports and observations in the clinical record.
  • Completes and provides documentation, care notes in a timely manner for proper submission to the payor source such as Medicare, Veterans Affairs, long term care insurance, etc.
  • Prepares equipment and materials for treatments observing aseptic technique as required.
  • Follows infection control and standard precaution procedures.
  • Directs the client in learning appropriate self-care techniques.
  • Provides for the rehabilitation of clients according to the client care plan in collaboration with the Occupational Therapist, Nursing Staff and Physical Therapy Staff to achieve client goals of optimal health and function.
  • Consults the Occupational Therapist, Clinical Manager and Administrator as needed to assist in making sound judgments or decisions regarding care and treatments.
  • Performs supervisory visits as needed with active clients to ensure standards of quality are being met with care staff in their homes.
  • Assists home safety assessments.
  • Available to participate in care staff training.
  • Participates either in-person (preferred) or virtually in weekly care coordination meetings.
  • Maintains excellent communication and collaboration with referral sources and all health care providers involved in a client’s care.
  • Other general office and clerical functions as needed to complete documentation.
  • Participates in community relations activities, care plan meetings.
