About The Position

This role involves assisting patients/residents/clients with therapy activities and exercises as part of a treatment plan, under the supervision of an occupational therapist, to enhance their quality of life and ability to perform daily activities. The certified occupational therapy assistant provides, monitors, and records therapy services for individuals with physical, cognitive, developmental, and psychosocial impairments. They select and modify therapeutic activities and interventions based on competency, patient goals, and practice setting requirements. This role requires collaboration with the occupational therapist by providing information and documentation on patient responses during intervention and contributing to outcome achievement. Adherence to clinical practice guidelines is expected, and other related duties may be performed as needed. Work may focus on patients in post-acute, long-term care, and home health care environments, depending on location and facility needs.

Requirements

  • Appropriate education level required in accordance with state licensure.
  • Must be licensed as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the state(s) of practice.
  • When working at a Sanford Health Facility (not required but preferred for GSS Facilities): Must also be certified as an Occupational Therapy Assistant through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • Conforms to the supervision and licensing standards of the state(s) where services are provided.
  • When applicable, may require valid driver's license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within six months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred for GSS Facilities: Certified as an Occupational Therapy Assistant through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients/residents/clients with therapy activities and exercises scheduled in a treatment plan, under the supervision of an occupational therapist.
  • Provides, monitors, and records therapy services to patients/residents/clients with physical, cognitive, developmental and psychosocial impairments.
  • Selects, implements, and makes modifications to therapeutic activities and interventions.
  • Exchanges information with and provides documentation to the occupational therapist about the patient's/resident's/client's responses and communications during intervention.
  • Provides information and documentation related to outcome achievement.
  • Follows and adheres to accepted clinical practice guidelines of professional organization.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.
