About The Position

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide occupational therapy services to patients. The COTA assists patients in developing, recovering, and improving the skills needed for daily living, work, and independence.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
  • Current state licensure or eligibility to practice as a COTA
  • CPR/BLS certification
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (if home health-based)

Nice To Haves

  • Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)

Responsibilities

  • Provide occupational therapy treatments as outlined in treatment plans developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), fine motor skills, coordination, strength, and functional mobility
  • Educate patients and caregivers on therapeutic exercises, adaptive equipment, and strategies to support independence
  • Monitor patient progress and document treatment sessions accurately and timely
  • Report changes in patient condition to the supervising Occupational Therapist
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive therapy environment
  • Follow all applicable healthcare regulations, policies, and ethical standards
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members as needed
