About The Position

Bristol Hospice is seeking compassionate Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) with a heart for patients and families to join their team. The CNA plays a vital role as a member of the Interdisciplinary Group Team, working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide personal care and promote patient comfort. Requirements

  • Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant (applicable for all States)
  • Must have completed a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training
  • Licensed driver with automobile that is insured in accordance with organization/state requirements and is in good working order
  • Willingness to submit to a criminal background check prior to hire and annually thereafter
  • Current CPR certification

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year experience in community health/hospice or medical/surgical environments
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions
  • An understanding of hospice philosophy and comfort providing specialized care to the terminally ill
  • Ability to work autonomously with little direct supervision
  • Successfully demonstrate tact, patience and good personal hygiene
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Understanding of plan of care documentation
  • Flexible in work hours to ensure the patients receive care as provided in the plan of care
  • Ability to empathize with the needs of the ill, injured, frail and impaired
  • Comfortable addressing issues of death/dying
  • Calm demeanor when entering the patients home

Responsibilities

  • Perform personal care needs as assigned, attending to patient requests promptly and reporting any inability to perform tasks to the Case Manager.
  • Utilize positive communication techniques with patients and families, maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Ensure patient safety by using equipment properly and safely.
  • Provide personal care including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, and changing bed linens as assigned.
  • Assist patients with dressing and undressing as assigned.
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals, including shopping, as assigned.
  • Assist with feeding patients as assigned.
  • Take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) when ordered and with demonstrated skills competency.
  • Provide proper care and observation of patient's skin to prevent breakdown.
  • Assess and report on patient condition and significant changes to the Case Manager, being aware of interpersonal issues within the household.
  • Assist with ambulation and exercise as instructed by the hospice nurse or therapist.
  • Provide normal range of motion and transfers/positioning as directed.
  • Assist with self-administered medications as allowed by state regulations (e.g., providing reminders).
  • Offer and assist with bedpan and urinal aid as assigned.
  • Aid with light laundry needs if necessary.
  • Perform range of motion and other simple procedures as an extensional therapy service, as ordered with demonstrated skills competency.
  • Provide respite for patient's family/caregiver when on-site, as appropriate.
  • Maintain patient's living area in a clean and orderly condition as assigned.
  • Adhere to the organization's documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct.
  • Participate in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities.
  • Respect patient and family/caregiver environment and patient's personal needs.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
