About The Position

The primary purpose of this job position is to provide each of your assigned residents with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan, and as may be directed by your supervisors. This role involves maintaining resident comfort, safety, and well-being, while adhering to all facility policies and procedures. The position requires a commitment to confidentiality and the reporting of any changes in resident condition or incidents. This role is crucial in ensuring that residents receive high-quality care and that a positive, supportive environment is maintained. The Certified Nursing Assistant will work collaboratively with nursing staff and other departments to meet the needs of the residents.

Requirements

  • Must possess, as a minimum, an 10th grade education.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be a licensed Certified Nursing Assistant in accordance with laws of the state.
  • CPR certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide routine daily nursing care and services to assigned residents according to their assessment and care plan.
  • Identify residents before administering treatments or serving meals using wristbands or photo cards.
  • Use only authorized abbreviations in documentation.
  • Report all changes in resident condition to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse promptly.
  • Record all entries on flow sheets, notes, and charts in an informative and descriptive manner.
  • Report all observed accidents and incidents as they occur.
  • Maintain resident confidentiality and report any suspected or known violations of protected health information disclosure.
  • Report any known or suspected unauthorized attempts to access the facility’s information system.
  • Perform only trained nursing care procedures.
  • Ensure resident rooms are prepared for new admissions.
  • Greet residents and escort them to their rooms.
  • Introduce residents to roommates and other staff/residents as appropriate.
  • Assist residents in making their beds, putting on extra covers, and maintaining comfort.
  • Measure and record resident temperatures, pulses, and respirations (TPRs).
  • Weigh and measure residents as instructed.
  • Ensure residents who are unable to call for help are checked frequently.
  • Answer resident calls promptly.
  • Check residents routinely to ensure personal care needs are met.
  • Assist residents with identifying food arrangements and recording food/fluid intake.
  • Report changes in resident eating habits to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
  • Keep resident water pitchers clean, filled, and within reach.
  • Perform after-meal care, including cleaning resident's hands, face, and clothing.
  • Participate in and receive nursing reports upon reporting for duty and as instructed.
  • Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids.
  • Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with established policies, procedures, and supervisor instructions.
  • Follow work assignments and schedules.
  • Cooperate with inter-departmental and facility personnel to ensure adequate nursing services.
  • Notify the facility when late or absent from work.
  • Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals.
  • Assist residents with daily functions such as dental/mouth care, bathing, hair combing, and dressing/undressing.
  • Keep residents dry by changing gowns, clothing, and linens when wet or soiled.
  • Assist residents in preparing for medical tests and examinations.
  • Assist with lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting residents.
  • Perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed.
  • Observe and report the presence of pressure areas and skin breakdowns to prevent decubitus ulcers.
  • Report injuries of an unknown source, including skin tears.
  • Observe disoriented and comatose residents, recording and reporting data as instructed.
  • Perform special treatments as instructed.
  • Immediately notify the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse of any resident leaving or missing from the facility.
  • Use only trained equipment and report defective equipment to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
  • Report all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property.
  • Honor resident refusal of treatment requests and report such requests to the supervisor.
