About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant supports nurses by providing basic patient care and attending to clients’ personal needs and comfort. Care is delivered in settings that may include Home Health, Hospice, Residential, and Private Duty. The role includes providing simple or uncomplicated care within the scope of the aide’s certification and applicable standards of practice, and supporting people in maintaining dignity, privacy, and independence at home.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age.
• Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record as defined by agency policy.
• CNA or Home Health Care Aide certification if required by state licensure in the state where care is provided.
• Completion of a recognized home care aide training program or six months of recent experience as an aide.
• Ability to use proper body mechanics while lifting; may be expected to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to sit, stand, and walk for periods of time, and to bend, stoop, push, pull, and reach.
• Must not perform functions beyond the standards of practice permitted by the aide’s certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist nurses with basic care activities related to patients’ personal needs and comfort.
• Dress, groom, bathe, and feed patients.
• Take and record patient vital signs, including temperature, pulse, and respiration rate.
• Answer call lights and assist patients with toileting, oral care, nail care, and catheter care.
• Assist patients in wheelchairs and transport them as needed.
• Turn bedridden patients and report changes in patient condition.
• Remove trash, clean rooms, and change bed linens.
• Give medication as directed by a physician or nurse and document the amount and time given.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
