About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the General Surgery Unit works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse/LPN and Nurse Manager/Director. This role is responsible for providing personal care to hospital patients and maintaining their environment, including those requiring special precautions. The CNA must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served in the assigned unit, understanding principles of growth and development. This position promotes a safe work environment for staff and customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection.
• Demonstrates accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes.
• Maintains clean, safe and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment; stocking supplies; placing equipment in proper storage areas.
• Demonstrates the ability to follow plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under direction of RN/LPN. This may include the following procedures dependent upon unit/facility competency requirements such as enemas, vital signs, ice application, compresses, perineal care, rectal tube, sitz bath, unsterile sites, strain urine for stones, specimen collection, etc.
• Demonstrates the ability to follow the plan of care that assures patients receive consistent, competent, and ethical care, within legal standards of practice, while maintaining privacy and support for the patient’s value system.
• Provides care consistent with both verbal and/or written instructions.
• Demonstrates competent understanding of assigned plans of care within appropriate scope of practice and responsibilities as directed by the RN/LPN to include accurately completing all required documentation.
• Participates positively in training and support of all team members, volunteers and students as needed.
