About The Position

The University of Virginia's number one ranked Department of Student Health and Wellness (SHW) provides a comprehensive range of medical, mental health, well-being, and disability support services to all enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. The University of Virginia’s Medical Services, a unit within the Department of Student Health and Wellness, is seeking a CNA. CNAs assist with caring for patients. The CNA is part of a team and establishes priorities by collaborating with other team members. The CNA follows protocols for obtaining vital signs and performing simple procedures and receives formal supervision from the Nursing Supervisor and Director of Nursing Services. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $19-23/hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The job requires frequent bending and stooping; proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 20 – 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. This position is located on the UVA Grounds in Charlottesville, VA. The selected applicant will pass a criminal background check and health/drug screen. This is an overtime eligible position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of experience as a CNA preferred.
  • Valid License as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) in the state of Virginia.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing patients for appointments (obtaining vital signs and entering into EMR)
  • Maintaining clinic flow
  • Assisting staff with procedures (EKGs, ear irrigations, collecting lab specimens)
  • Ensuring patient safety
  • Maintaining infection control standards
  • Preparing patients for discharge and home care (crutches, patient teaching, follow-up appointments, transportation)
  • Maintaining unit supplies and equipment
  • Other tasks as assigned
