About The Position

Provides direct and indirect resident care activities under the direction of an RN or LPN. Assists residents with activities of daily living, provides for personal care, comfort, and assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment for an assigned group of residents.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant Certification in State of Georgia for Long Term Care Facilities.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification within three (3) months of hire date.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic Computer Skills.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of and develop skills in basic nursing procedures and simple charting.
  • Must be able to follow directions, both oral and written, and work cooperatively with other staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct and indirect resident care activities.
  • Assists residents with activities of daily living.
  • Provides personal care and comfort.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment for residents.
  • Acquires knowledge and develops skills in basic nursing procedures and simple charting.
  • Assists in and accompanies residents in admission, transfer, and discharge procedures.
  • Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships with residents, family members, and other facility personnel while assuring confidentiality of resident information.
  • Provides morning/evening care including hand/face washing, oral hygiene, back rubs, peri-care, freshening linen, cleaning overbed tables, and straightening rooms.
  • Notifies appropriate licensed personnel when a resident complains of pain.
  • Assists LPN in treatment procedures.
  • Provides general nursing care such as positioning residents, lifting and turning residents, applying and utilizing special equipment, assisting with bedpans or commodes, and ambulating residents.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, blood pressure, and intake-output.
  • Makes rounds with outgoing and oncoming shifts, leaving the unit in good condition; knows the whereabouts of assigned residents.
  • Checks for reddened areas or skin breakdown and reports to RN or LPN/LVN.
  • Ensures residents are dressed properly and assists as necessary.
  • Ensures that used clothing is properly stored.
  • Ensures that all residents are clean and dry at all times.
  • Practices careful, efficient, and non-wasteful use of supplies and linen and follows established charge procedures.
  • Updates care plans and reports all changes to ADON/DON.
  • Completes documentation daily.
  • Provides reality orientation in daily care.
  • Reports and, when appropriate, records any changes observed in the condition or behavior of residents and unusual incidents.
  • Distributes drinking water and other nourishments to residents.
  • Performs general care activities for residents in isolation.
  • Answers residents’ call lights, anticipates residents’ needs, and makes rounds to assigned residents.
  • Assists residents with handling and care of clothing and other personal property (including dentures, glasses, contact lenses, hearing aids, and prosthetic devices).
  • Follows Code of Conduct policy.
  • Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual educational requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification when on duty; uses computerized time clock system correctly.
  • Completes in-services and returns them in a timely fashion.
  • Attends annual review and/or skills fair and department in-services, as scheduled.
  • Attempts to end conversations and other interactions in a positive manner; leaves others with a good impression of the Hospital Authority of Miller County and its employees.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission statement of the organization.
  • Treats others in a friendly, helpful manner.
  • Refers co-workers to proper sources when unable to provide an answer.
  • Interacts with others in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Takes interest in others and gives full cooperation to fellow workers.
