About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), referred to as Patient Care Assistant (PCA) at this institution, operates as a vital member of the patient care team under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). This role involves proficient and consistent execution of all PCA duties. Key responsibilities include assisting the RN with clinical tasks such as monitoring blood glucose levels, performing EKGs, applying simple dressings using aseptic technique, and responding to medical emergencies with Heartsaver CPR and AED skills. The PCA is also responsible for addressing the needs of patients and their families and actively contributing to the efficient operation of the unit. This position emphasizes the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model within an environment that exemplifies best practices. The specific unit, BWFH 6 South, is a fast-paced, 37-private bed medicine/telemetry teaching unit that supports medical education. It provides care for a diverse adult population with various acute and chronic conditions, utilizing advanced technology including telemetry, Vocera, Epic, and a Constant Monitoring System (CVM) for virtual patient observation.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED certificate required.
Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license required.
AHA Heartsaver, CPR and AED program required.

Responsibilities

Support the RN with clinical tasks, including blood glucose monitoring, completing EKGs, and applying simple dressings using aseptic technique.
Respond to medical emergency situations utilizing Heartsaver CPR and AED skills.
Address the needs of patients and family members.
Take an active role in the efficient operation of the unit.
Practice the Patient and Family Centered Care Model.
