The Certified Nursing Assistant (PCA) functions as a member of the patient care team, under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN). They are responsible for supporting the RN with clinical tasks, including blood glucose monitoring, completing EKGs, applying simple dressings using aseptic technique, and responding to medical emergency situations utilizing Heartsaver CPR and AED skills. The PCA also responds to the needs of patients and family members and takes an active role in the efficient operation of the unit, assuring the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model. The 6 South unit at BWFH is a fast-paced, 37-private bed medicine/telemetry teaching unit that supports medical education and training. It provides care for a diverse adult population with various acute and chronic conditions and is equipped with advanced technology including telemetry, Vocera, Epic, and a Constant Monitoring System (CVM).
