About The Position

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center located outside the Tri Cities in Connell, WA. This is a non-perm position with no end date. Under general supervision, performs routine tasks involving direct and indirect care, treatment and transportation such as assisting patients with daily living activities; preparing patients for surgery; performing non-invasive lap procedure; transporting patients, equipment, and supplies; and assisting with treatments. Performs various clerical tasks such as collecting data, ordering supplies, answering phones, recording messages or referring calls, data entry, photocopying, and completing forms. This position supports the health services and DOC mission by ensuring that facility records are secure, complete and available on demand for the myriads of service areas within Health Services. Coyote Ridge Corrections Center has a diverse population seeing different chronic diseases and taking care of those that need long term and palliative care. Extended Observations unit up to 96 hr. stay (4 beds) Long term palliative care unit See up to 2500 patients with different chronic disease (diabetes, hypertension, cancer, autoimmune disorders and much more). Health Services is responsible for basic primary care for incarcerated individuals. All disciplines within all of the 12 correctional facilities work closely together to reach a common goal, providing the best, most efficient, and cost-effective health care possible. Emphasis is placed on early identification of health concerns, care for acute and chronic health problems, and preventive care.

Requirements

  • Initial and continuous unblemished/unrestricted licensure in the State of Washington as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • Certification by the American Heart Association in emergency first response.
  • Indicates possession of knowledge, skill and or ability to perform nursing assistant activities.
  • Participates in the evaluation of competency in nursing assistant practice as requested by the Employer.
  • Able to use the computer to enter, schedule, monitor and track patient information, word process and communicate via email.
  • Must be able to work in spaces, climb stairs, walk long distances, and frequently lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Under rare circumstances this position may be required to lift or carry up to 50 pounds and push up to 100 pounds.
  • Candidates who are offered a job with the Department of Corrections must possess work authorization that does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Six months’ experience involving customer service in a health care setting OR six months’ experience involving direct patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Registered Nurse safely and effectively in the correctional setting and within the scope of practice defined by state law and administrative code.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including, but not limited to: Personal Care, Eating, drinking, Transfers, Ambulation, Restorative and rehabilitative activities, Light housekeeping duties in patient rooms or supervisor incarcerated individuals who are doing so.
  • Apply external applications such as braces, hearing aids, and dentures.
  • Assist patients with active/passive range of motion.
  • Gather information for professional staff. This includes, but is not limited to: Vital signs, Weight, Intake and output.
  • Observe, document, and report changes in patient activity and/or symptoms such as vital signs, respirations, discomfort, intake and output, changes in weight, baseline, bowel changes.
  • Answer patient call lights, determine nature of problems; within scope and/or obtain appropriate resources.
  • Other tasks as delegated by Registered Nurse/Physician/Physician’s Assistant/Nurse Practitioner.
  • Track location of patient (arrival and departure) and procedures performed.
  • Relay information to Registered Nurse or Physician/Physician’s Assistant/Nurse Practitioner.
  • Disinfect common areas, re-stock supplies, prep patient for provider encounters.
  • Clerical duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by Registered Nurse or Provider, within the scope of practice.
