About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), also known as a Patient Care Technician (PCT), provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or other licensed care team member. The role emphasizes providing excellent patient care while respecting human dignity and the uniqueness of each individual. Key attributes for this role include empathy, compassion, strong communication skills, and teamwork, which are essential for the PCT-nurse-patient relationship. This position involves assisting patients with personal hygiene, including bathing, dental and oral care, hair, and nail care, as well as aiding with bowel and bladder functions while maintaining patient dignity. The CNA is responsible for recording patient intake and output (I&O), collecting, labeling, and transporting specimens for laboratory analysis, and changing and transporting soiled linens according to procedure. Maintaining a clean and tidy patient room/environment is also a key responsibility. Additionally, the CNA assists patients with activity, turning, and repositioning as ordered and in collaboration with the nurse, and communicates pertinent patient information and findings to the patient's nurse. The role requires the ability to set priorities for the care of multiple patients.

Requirements

Current Kentucky Nurse Aide Certification required or successful completion of first year of a Nursing program and validation of a clinical rotation consistent with level of education.
High School Diploma or equivalent
Basic Life Support (must be obtained within 30 days of hire)

Responsibilities

Assist patients in personal hygiene activities such as bathing, dental and oral care, hair, and nail care.
Assist patients with bowel and bladder functions while maintaining dignity.
Records patient intake and output (I & O).
Collects, labels, and transports specimens for laboratory analysis.
Changes and transport soiled and contaminated linens according to procedure.
Maintains clean and tidy patient room/environment.
Assist patients with activity, turning and repositioning as indicated by provider order and in collaboration with the nurse.
Communicates pertinent patient information/findings to patient’s nurse.
Sets priorities for the care of multiple patients.
