About The Position

Responsible for the care of patients through the pre-operative and post-operative phases of their surgical experience. Perform organizational, clerical, patient care, and environmental tasks as needed to facilitate the highest quality of patient care, and the efficient utilization of available resources within the scope of practice.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent - Required
  • Current BLS (Must be through the American Heart Association) - Required
  • Current State of Wyoming Certified Nursing Assistant - Required
  • Completion - Orientation Packet/Competency Skills Checklist within (3) month of start date - Required
  • Must be able to read patient charts, diagnostic instruments, and computers - Constant
  • Must be able to hear patient care alarms, call lights, phones, safety alarms, and to communicate with physicians, staff, and patients/families - Constant
  • Must be able to verbally communicate with physicians, staff, and patients/families - Constant
  • Must be able to write and type data into patient charts/computer and to perform duties requiring fine motor skills - Frequently

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient care procedures as directed by RN or Director.
  • Available to assist other staff members as needed.
  • Report abnormal observations of patient conditions immediately to nursing staff.
  • Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing(s), and toileting needs.
  • Provide a friendly, safe, timely, quality driven environment, responsive to the needs of Premier Bone & Joint Centers' patients.
  • Enforce infection prevention/control procedures, use supplies and equipment in a cost effective manner and manage multiple tasks at one time.
  • Follow safety standards while performing patient related duties by using good body mechanics and carrying out patient transfer procedures correctly.
  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Fit patient with appropriate brace, sling, cryo cuff, assistive devices, etc.
  • Educate patients on the use of braces and assistive devices.
  • Assist recovery staff with patient care, as directed by RN, paying attention to special patient needs.
  • Prepare post-op exercise sheet, help to arrange for post-op therapy, and file appropriate paperwork.
  • Greet patient when they arrive for appointments; perform check-in procedure, including verification of patient’s demographic and contact information.
  • Answer phone calls, take messages and/or attempt to answer inquiries.
  • Help patients sign consents and ABNs.
  • Take temperatures if indicated.
  • Take payments securely following billing office protocol.
  • Locate and prepare patient charts for the next-day surgeries, create charts for new patients, and maintain patients' charts.
  • Enter patient charts into database.
  • Facilitate communication between physicians, medical staff, and surgery center staff.
  • Observe confidentiality of information in regards to patients, physicians, and fellow employees.
  • Protect patient sensitivities and right to privacy.
  • Use computer to accurately load, maintain, and retrieve patient data.
  • Follow dress code.
  • Project a pleasant and professional image per company policy.
  • Wear identification while on duty.
  • Come to work projecting an attitude that welcomes patients.
  • Communicate name and role to patient.
  • Respond with flexibility to changing work load and/or assignments.

  • Observe confidentiality of information in regards to patients, physicians, and fellow employees; ability to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA standards.
  • Follow dress code of the department, appear professional when present in the clinic, wear identification while on duty, and communicate name and role to patient appropriately.
  • Substantiate overtime, minimize overtime and adjust hours as needed.
  • Cell phone may be used for business purposes only. Utilize cell phone for personal use only during breaks or meal periods out of the public eye.
  • Participates in Premier Bone & Joint Centers and departmental in-services and staff meetings.
  • Order supplies and equipment and store in an organized manner.
  • Maintain appropriate food stock through inventory and purchase.
  • Perform departmental laundry duties.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and safe environment for patients and staff, including personal work areas.
  • Utilize correct/safe technique when using equipment and notify manager of malfunctioning equipment.
