The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Observation-Neuro Med Surg assists the Registered Nurse (RN) with the daily care of patients, focusing on observation and support within the Neuro Med Surg unit. This role involves direct patient care activities such as bathing, hygiene, feeding, and assisting with mobility, as well as accurate documentation of vital signs and patient data in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The CNA also performs purposeful rounding, participates in patient admission and discharge processes, collects specimens, and manages patient belongings and call lights. Additionally, the role includes maintaining a clean and stocked nursing area, performing patient positioning and transport duties, and assisting with tasks related to skin integrity and nutritional needs. Depending on unit requirements and under RN direction, the CNA may also perform tasks like removing IVs, providing post-mortem care, and conducting bladder scans. A strong emphasis is placed on infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene and knowledge of aseptic procedures. The position requires the ability to provide age-appropriate care, demonstrating an understanding of growth and development across the lifespan.
