About The Position

This is a part-time Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) position within the Obstetrics & Gynecology department. The role involves providing comprehensive health assessments, developing individualized care plans in collaboration with other health professionals, and managing patient care within established protocols. The CNM will identify and intervene in abnormal findings, support the cultural and psychosocial needs of families, and function within regulatory guidelines. The position also requires serving as a clinical resource, demonstrating critical thinking and interpersonal skills, and participating in committees and research as appropriate. The role involves both inpatient and outpatient care, including laboring patients and providing obstetrical and gynecological care in clinic or office settings. The position requires 24-hour hospital call with variable scheduling, including rotating weekends and holidays.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse required
  • Certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board and approved to practice as a Nurse Midwife in the state of NC
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider from AHA required
  • Minimum 1 year as a CNM

Responsibilities

  • Assesses health status utilizing advanced physical examination and medical history skills and designs individualized health care management plans in collaboration with other health professionals.
  • Manages health care within protocols mutually agreed upon by physician and team members.
  • Identifies abnormal findings early and initiates appropriate intervention.
  • Assesses and provides support for the cultural, psychosocial, language and physically challenged needs of the family unit.
  • Provides health care management, functioning within the guidelines of the Nursing Practice Act, the Medical Practice Act, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Serves as a role model/clinical resource in all aspects of job performance and human relations skills.
  • Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, the ability to prioritize and concentrate.
  • Assesses own practice needs, as well as those of the other members of the health care team and develops methods to meet those needs.
  • Participates on committees and in research as appropriate.
  • Provides care for caring for laboring patients, and may include providing obstetrical and gynecological care in the clinic or office setting.
