About The Position

The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) will assess health status utilizing advanced physical examination and medical history skills, and design individualized health care management plans in collaboration with other health professionals. The CNM will manage healthcare within protocols mutually agreed upon by physician and team members, identify abnormal findings early, and initiate appropriate intervention. They will assess and provide support for the cultural, psychosocial, language, and physically challenged needs of the family unit. The CNM will provide health care management, functioning within the guidelines of the Nursing Practice Act, the Medical Practice Act, and other regulatory agencies. They will serve as a role model/clinical resource in all aspects of job performance and human relations skills, demonstrating appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and concentrate. The CNM will assess their own practice needs, as well as those of other members of the health care team, and develop methods to meet those needs. Participation on committees and in research as appropriate is also expected. This role involves functioning independently in an inpatient care setting, clinic, or office setting in collaboration with a supervising physician, providing care for laboring patients, and may include providing obstetrical and gynecological care in the clinic or office setting. The position requires 24-hour hospital call with variable scheduling, a minimum of 48 shifts per year, and rotating weekend call and holidays.

Requirements

• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse required
• Certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board and approved to practice as a Nurse Midwife in the state of NC
• Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider from AHA required
• Minimum 1 year as a CNM
