This role functions as a co-worker to the nurse and a key member of the nursing care team. The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Training Program provides supervision to patients and communicates any changes in patient condition to the nurse. The position requires accurate documentation on the Constant Observation flow sheet and interaction with patients, visitors, and staff to support patients' specific needs related to age, culture, spiritual, physical, and mental challenges. A primary focus is ensuring a safe environment for patients, which includes maintaining an environment free of clutter and potential hazards, reporting defective equipment and unsafe conditions, and following policy for Constant Observation at all times. Assistance may be requested from others for personal care needs of the patient. The role also involves accompanying patients to other departments. All responsibilities noted are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
