About The Position

This position is for a Certified Nurse Assistant, Nurse Assistant, or Trainee on the Ortho-Neuro 800 unit. The role involves providing basic patient care under the direction of nursing staff, including taking vital signs, assisting with bathing, dressing, and moving patients, and changing linens. The unit is a Level I Stroke and Trauma Center, specializing in complex conditions like stroke, trauma, and neurosurgical cases. The patient population is diverse, ranging from 18 to 102 years old. The 800 unit is described as a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a strong culture of teamwork and support, where compassion, collaboration, and pride in work are valued. For qualified candidates, there is a career ladder available. The Nurse Assistant Training Program provides training in a classroom and clinical learning environment to become unlicensed assistive personnel. While in training, basic patient care is provided under supervision. Upon completion of training, a competency assessment is administered.

Requirements

3 months experience as a nursing assistant in an inpatient or long-term care setting, EMT, or Surgical Technologist in the past 3 years OR Completed an Unlicensed Assistive Personnel Program within the past 3 years OR Completed the “fundamentals of nursing” course with clinical in an accredited nursing program or practical nursing education program OR Must have Missouri CNA License OR Must have MO CNA Appendix AND MO CNA license must be obtained within 120 days of hire
BLS must be obtained within 90 days
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Exhibits valuable time management skills
Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
Flexibility and ability to work in a multi-tasking environment.
Is available for work on a consistent and timely basis
Conscientious, thorough, accurate, and reliable when performing and completing job tasks

Responsibilities

Provide basic patient care under direction of nursing staff.
Perform duties such as take vitals, bathe, dress, move patients, change linens and other duties as assigned.
Obtains information on patient condition as requested by the nursing staff, and reports any changes in patient condition.
Functions within a classroom and clinical learning environment to obtain training as unlicensed assistive personnel.
While in the clinical learning environment, will provide basic patient care under direction and supervision of clinical educator and nursing staff.
During clinical rotation, may perform duties such as taking vitals, bathing, dressing, moving patients, changing linens and other duties within their scope of practice as directed.
While in clinical setting, obtains information on patient condition as requested by the nursing staff or clinical educator and reports any changes in patient condition.
At the end of the training, a competency assessment will be administered to validate learning.
