About The Position

The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) will have direct and indirect contact with residents, families, nursing personnel, and physicians. The main function of this role is to maintain the quality and consistency of nursing care by executing the approved care plan of each resident through assisting in the delivery of personal care services. Prior to regular duties, each CNA must complete the resident's orientation training program and participate in regularly scheduled in-service training programs. CNAs must not have a physical or emotional problem that would interfere with normal daily functioning and the provision of appropriate care. As a CNA, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Must have certified nurse aide, CNA or have equivalent training or experience
  • No experience necessary
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and of good moral character.
  • Must possess the ability to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
  • Must possess ability to work under conditions of frequent interruptions and must possess respect for confidentiality.
  • Must be able to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents, staff, and visitors based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.
  • Must be able to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing accounting practices.
  • Must be knowledgeable of micro-computers, verify financial documents and reports.
  • Must be able to prepare financial and other records in a systematic, neat and legible manner.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
  • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to lift and move office equipment, supplies, etc., in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.

Nice To Haves

  • 10 hours of dementia training annually, including 2 hours of pain.
  • Annual physical per ALSA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities with a positive attitude.
  • Acts as a representative of the residence to the community.
  • Assist licensed personnel by providing basic nursing care to an assigned group of residents; follow resident care plans for delivery of resident care and service.
  • Practice positive resident relations; respond to resident and family inquiries, concerns or problems.
  • Exchange resident information with licensed nurses on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintain and protect the confidentiality of resident information.
  • Escort residents to appointments, when needed.
  • Observe instructions of nursing staff and perform in line with established routine.
  • Provide maximum resident care services to assure well-being of resident to the greatest degree.
  • Carry out all requests made of him/her by the supervisor or to the best of his/her ability.
  • Attend all nursing staff meetings and in-services.
  • Be punctual and abide by the dress code of the facility.
  • Assist the Residents with the Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s), including toileting, dressing, bathing, eating and walking as provided in the service plan.
  • Maintain an awareness of each Resident’s general state of health and report any noticed changes at once to a nurse.
  • Assist Residents with clothing and laundry needs.
  • Assist Residents with keeping their apartments neat, clean and orderly.
  • Answer emergency calls and attend to the Resident’s needs promptly.
  • Assist with and participate in Resident activities.
  • Understand good housekeeping/sanitation practices.
  • Understand Infection Control.
  • Follow the chain of command of the facility.
  • Maintain a constant level of professionalism with residents, staff and family members.
  • Participate in unit duties not performed by housekeeping.
  • Assist resident with self-administered medication management in accordance with state regulations.
  • Assist residents to activities, hairdresser and special functions.
  • May accompany residents to outside functions or appointments.
  • Chart appropriately on the residents in EMR.
  • Respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Maintain 10 hours of dementia training annually, including 2 hours of pain.
  • Maintain annual physical per ALSA regulations.
  • Serve on, participate in, and attend various committees of the facility, (i.e., Performance Improvement, Safety, etc.,) as required, and as appointed by the Administrator.
  • Maintain a productive working relationship with other departments.
  • Assure that appropriate identification documents are presented prior to employment and that such records are maintained in your personnel record.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.
  • Provide residents with information concerning resident rights funds, living wills, etc., Explain as necessary.
