About The Position

This position requires a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) to work in a Long-Term Care (LTC) facility. The role involves providing direct personal care services to patients, observing and reporting on their physical and mental symptoms, and implementing care and treatment procedures. The CNA will also assist in activities of daily living and restorative care, and participate in the treatment team. The position requires assessing and meeting the age-specific needs of patients.

Requirements

  • Six (6) months of work experience in a LTC health facility such as a hospital or similar medically oriented institution.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic nursing skills (i.e., taking vital signs, measuring output, recognition of abnormal signs and symptoms, etc.).
  • Knowledge of first aid.
  • Knowledge of patient rights.
  • Knowledge of universal precautions.
  • Knowledge of infection control.
  • Knowledge of body mechanics.
  • Knowledge of principles of growth and development.
  • Knowledge of purpose and benefits of activities of daily living (i.e., eating/feeding, providing fluids, bathing, dressing, etc.).
  • Knowledge of purpose and benefits of restorative care (i.e., use and application of assistive devices, range of motion activities, etc.).
  • Knowledge of basic medical and nursing terminology.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand simple sentences in English.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions precisely.
  • Ability to get along well with others.
  • Ability to acquire and demonstrate an attitude of respect toward patients with a variety of disabilities.
  • Ability to retain emotional stability despite emotional and physical pressures.
  • Ability to develop an appreciation of nursing and medical ethics.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and report on a variety of physical and/or mental symptoms and conditions.
  • Implement care and/or treatment procedures for a caseload of patients.
  • Assist and participate in the activities of the treatment team.
  • Assess each patient’s age specific needs.
  • Independently provide age specific direct personal care services to a caseload of patients.
  • Provide personal hygiene and bodily care.
  • Assist and participate in restorative care, including the use and application of assistive devices and range of motion activities.
