Requirements

• Bachelors Medical Technology or Bachelors Medical Science or Bachelors General Required
• MT(ASCP) - Medical Technologist or MT(AMT) - Medical Technologist or MT(AAB) - Medical Technologist or MT(HEW) - Medical Technologist or MLS(ASCP) - Medical Laboratory Scientist or MLS(AMT) - Medical Laboratory Scientist
• Persons who possess the technologist qualifications and have recently moved into the state and certified by a state (ie NY, FL, CA) or have recently completed the academic and training/experience requirements at an accredited MLS school may be temporarily classified once as a medical laboratory scientist for eighteen (18) months to afford the persons an opportunity to successfully complete an approved qualifying examination.
• Computer/data entry experience.
• Ability to communicate with various members of the healthcare team.
• Ability to use EXCEL, Word and have basic computer operational knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Performs clinical laboratory testing pursuant to established and approved protocols requiring the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility.
• Maintains equipment and records.
• Performs quality assurance activities related to test performance.
• May supervise and teach within the laboratory setting.
• Maintains acceptable accuracy in patient, quality assurance, proficiency, and competency testing.
• Uses clinical/theoretical knowledge to analyze, investigate, interpret, and report lab data.
• Reports lab data accurately and within established turnaround times and productivity standards.
• Recognizes the relationship between lab data and clinical findings or expectations.
• Interprets information from multiple sources.
• Practices information monitoring, investigation, resolution, and hand-off to team members.
• Complies with Pending Log procedure for tracking laboratory test status.
• Documents in the LIS all elements of the Notification Value Call procedure.
• Hands-off information to others according to the department procedure and chain of command.
• Adheres to Wellstars Standards of Behavior in a consistent fashion.
• Takes personal responsibility for corrective action on constructive criticism.
• Contributes to the Laboratory's Performance Improvements and inspection readiness.
• Assists in analysis of new methods for testing including correlations and procedure writing.
• Assists in inspection preparation.
• Participates in the Laboratory Performance Improvement initiatives.
• Practices cost-efficient work processes that maintain high quality laboratory data.
• Maintains current personal training, education and practice of policies and procedures.
• Maintains current knowledge and practice of WellStar policies and procedures, including LIS.
• Demonstrates adequate knowledge of laboratory regulatory compliance.
• Practices all Wellstar and Laboratory Safety Standards.
• Participates in meetings, committees, task forces and project teams.
• Completes monthly, quarterly, or yearly educational requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
