The role involves working with Maternal-Fetal Medicine and General Obstetrics and Gynecology specialists in a private outpatient office. Responsibilities include performing comprehensive history and physical examinations, obtaining patient medical information, documenting in an electronic medical record, and providing patient counseling and follow-up care. The midwife will work closely with the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division to care for women with high-risk pregnancies and assist in multidisciplinary approaches to these cases.

Requirements

  • Midwifery Certification-NYS
  • 2-3 years clinical experience
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in working in a labor and delivery suite or high-risk pregnancy practice
  • Experience in contraception, well woman care and menstrual irregularities

Responsibilities

  • Provide family-centered midwifery care to patients in the context of a group practice.
  • Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations.
  • Obtain pertinent patient medical information.
  • Record medical information in electronic medical record format.
  • Provide accurate and sensitive patient counseling and follow-up of care.
  • Work closely with the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division in the care of women carrying high-risk complicated pregnancies.
  • Assist in the arrangement of multidisciplinary approaches to complicated pregnancies.
  • Earn at least 20 CME hours per year.
  • Provide feedback to the Director regarding any problems affecting the service.
  • Strive to improve language skills in Spanish & Chinese.
  • Demonstrate initiative by sharing in sick call and other emergency coverage.
  • Participate in efforts to promote and expand our midwifery practice.
  • Maintain credentials at all appropriate facilities.
  • Check e-mail at the start of each clinical day for messages from practice.
  • Participate in back-up call system for weekend coverage (4 weekends per year minimum).
  • Participate in teaching of midwifery students, medical students and House Staff.
  • Participate in the committee work of our practice and some administrative functions.
  • Participate in Data Collection & Quality Assurance Activities.
  • Contribute to the midwifery coverage of the Birth Center and Labor & Delivery equally with the other staff midwives for inpatient care.
  • Provide outpatient care including prenatal, postpartum, gynecology and family planning.
