About The Position

The purpose of the Certified Medication Aide (CMA) position is to administer prescribed medication to the residents and provide support to the nursing staff. They may also assist with assessments, providing care, updating records, and completing documentation.

Requirements

  • Freedom from illegal use of drugs.
  • Freedom from use and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.
  • Anyone found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in the position.
  • Certification for CMA license and a current, valid license or registration in the state where employed are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Long Term Care experience preferred, but not required.
  • CPR certification desired.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures residents receive high quality care and that their needs are met.
  • Maintains adequate stock of medications, labels and stores them as required.
  • Prepares and administers medication and records each administration in resident's medical file.
  • Encourages and educates residents on the need for medications per the physician's orders.
  • Takes vital signs and records on the appropriate document.
  • Responsible for notifying responsible party and the physician of changes in resident's condition and/or needs to change medication regimen or need to change treatment plan.
  • Receives, transcribes, and executes physicians' orders.
  • Monitors lab results and acts accordingly.
  • Reports concerning findings to the assigned nurse and/or nursing management.
  • Assists and supervises Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) with daily tasks.
  • Assures implementation of care plans as directed.
  • Investigates/documents and provides input for interventions when incidents and accidents.
  • Encourages safety to prevent injury. Assures equipment safety and cleanliness.
  • Follows facility policy and procedures.
  • Communicates in a professional and courteous manner using effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills with residents, their families, and co-workers.
  • Maintains confidentiality of department, resident, employee information, communication, and documentation as well as compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.
  • Clocks in and out for all working/training hours. Working off the clock will not be permitted at any time or for any reason.
  • Must act in ways that promote professional and positive representation of the facility to the community.
  • Maintain compliance with Legacy's Compliance program and plan.
  • Adhere to Legacy's Code of Conduct and Dress Code.
