The Certified Medication Aide will prepare, administer, and document prescribed medications per protocol. This role involves administering prescribed medications and treatments as defined by state regulations in accordance with company policy and procedure. The aide will observe and report reactions and side-effects of medications to the charge nurse, and record vital signs prior to administering medications that could affect them. They will also report and document reasons for not administering prescribed drugs. The medication aide is responsible for documenting administered medications in the resident's medication administration record and can administer oxygen in emergencies, followed by immediate notification and documentation for the licensed nurse. Additionally, the aide will apply specifically ordered ophthalmic, otic, nasal, and vaginal medications, and assist with customary daily requirements such as bathing, feeding, dressing, observing intake, hair and nail care, transferring residents, responding to calls, and maintaining the cleanliness of the nursing station, medication room, and supply room.
