Certified Medication Aides (CMAs) are Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs) who are responsible for providing basic care to residents to maintain or regain physical, mental, and emotional well-being. This includes dispensing medications per State standards and practice guidelines. CMAs are certified through successful completion of training in a State-approved training course and a State-approved medication aide training program. They work in collaboration with registered nurses and are expected to perform basic CNA duties as needed. The primary purpose of this role is to dispense resident medications as ordered by the physician, following standard practices for medication administration. Responsibilities are delegated by the administrative authority of the neighborhood charge nurse and/or Director of Nursing, and accountability is consistent with the scope of practice outlined in the Nurse Practice Act of the State of State Board of Nursing and Health Occupations Credentialing Division of the State Department of Health. The Certified Medication Aide is under the direct supervision of the neighborhood Primary Care Nurse and the facility Director of Nursing and/or the Assistant Director of Nursing.
