About The Position

Performs technical duties in the field of patient care and participates in the general health care of patients by providing assistance with cleanliness, grooming, rest, activity, nourishment, and distribution of medications. Assists the professional staff in maintaining a safe therapeutic environment. This role is located within a correctional facility and requires adherence to specific security and operational protocols.

Requirements

  • High school or GED equivalent.
  • Current Texas Certified Medication Aide permit.
  • Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work experience.
  • Security clearance is required.
  • Pre-employment drug testing is required.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, reports, and documents patient data including vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, and pulse oximetry.
  • Performs and reports Point of Care Testing.
  • Assists with patient activities and care as assigned by the charge nurse/designee, following the patient's plan of care.
  • Provides for patients' personal hygiene, including bathing, oral suctioning, superficial wound care, skin care, assisting with elimination, and ostomy care.
  • Assists with feeding patients.
  • Assists with ambulation, positioning, and turning of patients, and cares for patients with altered mobility.
  • Assists with patient safety, including restraints and specific safety precautions, and collects/reports data related to patient needs or emergencies.
  • Cares for patients in a correctional environment.
  • Interviews incoming patients, completes receiving/screening forms, and informs nurses/physicians of patients needing immediate attention.
  • Records information on newly received patients and maintains statistical logs.
  • Performs duties necessary for psychiatric referrals and screening.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and comfortable facility environment.
  • Obtains, stores, and maintains pharmacy and nursing medications/supplies.
  • Distributes and documents patient medications according to Texas Administrative Code.
  • Ensures drug room security, replaces facility working drug stocks, and maintains the upkeep of the drug room and pharmaceutical equipment.
  • Enters medication compliance into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Practices basic cost containment and utilization management.
  • Prioritizes and organizes work to complete assignments within specified timeframes.
  • Promotes positive interpersonal relationships with co-workers and security staff.
  • Participates in in-service orientation and continuing education classes.
  • Obtains 40 hours of continuing education/in-service hours annually.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structures.
  • Performs related duties as required.
