STGi is currently seeking a Certified Medication Aide to provide services at The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home. A $2000 sign-on bonus will be paid to Full-Time employees. The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home is located in Temple, TX. Our staff provides compassionate and specialized care to our nation's veterans. We focus on providing the best experience for residents and their families.

Requirements

  • Certified Medication Aide certification
  • Accurate medication administration
  • Observation of residents for medication effectiveness and adverse effects
  • Documentation of resident cares and observations
  • Notification of changes in resident condition or medication issues to licensed nurse
  • Ability to perform Certified Nurse Aide duties
  • Follow comprehensive care plans
  • Respond to resident assistance calls promptly
  • Verify narcotic counts, check emergency kits, and exchange keys
  • Obtain required in-service hours
  • Observe infection control procedures
  • Store medications accurately and appropriately
  • Monitor drug expiration dates
  • Follow destruction processes for medications
  • Follow the 5 Rights of medication administration
  • Timely and accurate documentation of medication administration
  • Follow processes for reordering, unavailability, discontinuation, and expiration of medications
  • Follow regulations for reporting medication errors
  • Observe community processes for narcotic sign-out and administration, including shift counts and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain report from licensed nurse/CMA being relieved and record sufficient information related to medication administration to implement accurate changes to medication orders.
  • Administer medications to residents in an accurate, timely manner to include, but not limited to, correct resident/correct medication/correct dose/correct route/correct time.
  • Observe residents for effectiveness of drug therapy and occurrence of adverse effects. Report immediately to licensed nurse.
  • Document resident cares related to medication administration, related monitoring, and report to the licensed nurse any occurrence of observed adverse effects/change in resident's condition.
  • Notify licensed nurse of observed changes in residents’ conditions, medication errors, medication not available, and any other untoward observations.
  • Perform duties of Certified Nurse Aide as assigned.
  • Follow comprehensive care plans related to medication administration based on each resident’s needs and his/her comprehensive assessment as assigned.
  • Participate in Community education programs.
  • Promptly report observed changes in residents’ conditions to the licensed nurse.
  • Respond to residents’ call for assistance promptly.
  • Verify accuracy of narcotic count; check emergency kit and exchange keys.
  • Obtain in-service hours required.
  • Observe infection control procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by his/her supervisor.
  • Store medications accurately and appropriately, monitor drug expiration dates and follow process for destruction.
  • Follow the 5 Rights of medication administration
  • Timely and accurate documentation of medication administration
  • Follow process for notification of need to reorder medications
  • Follow process for notification unavailability of medication
  • Follow process for discontinued and expired medication
  • Follow regulations/guidelines for immediately reporting medication errors
  • Observe community process related to signing out narcotic and administration thereof. This includes the process related to shift narcotic count and documentation thereof.
