About The Position

This role is for a Certified Medical Assistant/Patient Service Representative in a Pain Clinic. The position involves a combination of front office reception duties and direct patient care assistance under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or physician/provider. The goal is to ensure efficient clinic operations, provide excellent patient service, and support medical procedures.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from a recognized medical assistant training course or equivalent clinical experience.
  • Current CMA (AAMA), NCMA or CCMA certification required.
  • BLS certification required or must be obtained with 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • Previous physician office experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Phlebotomy and EKG experience preferred.
  • Previous billing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and perform general office functions and receptionist duties including greeting patients, typing correspondence, filing, answering phones, and transmitting messages.
  • Complete return phone calls to patients, physician offices, etc.
  • Order medical and office supplies as needed.
  • Screen patient referrals from physician offices and schedule appointments.
  • Complete tasks for patient registration and precertification.
  • Input orders and process patient payments.
  • Perform office charge entry.
  • Assist in the delivery of direct patient care under the supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse or a physician/provider in clinic and procedural areas.
  • Assist with procedures within the scope of training/certification, including positioning patients for kyphoplasty, stimulator placement, and injections.
  • Assist physician/provider in preparing exam rooms, equipment, and patients for medical exams/procedures by taking medical history, vital signs, and lab specimens.
  • Administer medication both orally and by injection as prescribed by physician/provider.
  • Reinforce proper medication and dosage requirements with the patient and/or patient’s family.
  • Maintain a steady flow of patient volume to minimize physician/provider and patient wait times.
  • Conduct patient phone calls post-procedure for follow-up.
  • Conduct all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and JMH policies and procedures, including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.
  • Support organizational and department goals and participate in organizational/departmental Performance Improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient, employee, and business information.
  • Complete ongoing training and attend required educational programs.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned by the Department Manager.
