About The Position

Lower Lights Christian Health Center (LLCHC) is dedicated to transforming the health of Central Ohio by providing whole-person wellness services to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. In 2019, LLCHC served over 12,000 patients, with 40% being uninsured, and facilitated over 50,000 medical encounters across seven locations. Services include primary care, dental, vision, OB/GYN, telehealth, behavioral and psychiatric care, a low-cost pharmacy, and nutritional assistance programs. The working hours are Monday through Friday with occasional Saturday morning coverage. This position is responsible for preparing and maintaining records to meet quality control standards, developing and maintaining effective relations with patients, providers, LLCHC staff, and the public, and preparing patients and assisting the provider.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants and certification eligible or currently a certified Medical Assistant.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of immunization schedule and administration.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • One to three years' experience in a provider’s office preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
  • Physical ability necessary for extensive walking, standing, lifting, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Computer experience and familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) preferred.
  • Must be available 7:45a - 5:30p (hours of operation are 8a-5p, but can run over on occasion).

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate the ability to efficiently function in the business office, including interacting with patients and visitors professionally, rooming patients, verifying and updating information, processing patients prior to departure, scheduling follow-up appointments, providing after-visit summaries, communicating with patients using medical interpretation tools, operating the computer system efficiently, scanning documents into the EMR/HER system, covering other locations as required, understanding and adhering to LLCHC employee policies, and staying current on scanning patient documents into the EMR.
  • Demonstrate the ability to efficiently function in the clinical area of the office while assisting in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management, including preparing patients for examination and treatment, screening adult patients for appropriate information and vital signs, preparing exam and treatment rooms, assisting providers in preparing for treatments, minor surgery, PAP smears, and physicals, performing in-office testing and treatment, collecting specimens, and administering immunizations/medications per provider’s orders.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and accurately (both orally and in writing) with medical staff, patients, and the general public and document accurately in medical records, including completing follow-up phone calls, calling in prescriptions and/or refills, instructing patients on test preparation, conferring with providers regarding patient care, teaching and testing, and documenting all assessment data, patient education, and telephone calls in the medical record.
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain quality control standards and knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment, including maintaining current basic life support (BLS) certification, demonstrating proper hand washing technique and frequency, demonstrating thorough knowledge of universal precautions, and practicing fire safety and being knowledgeable of all general emergency procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain records for compliance with all regulatory agencies in accordance with the guidance set forth in the Clinical Manual, including completing daily, weekly, monthly logs for OSHA/CLIA compliance and assisting the office manager with vaccine temperature logs.
  • Possess interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relationships with others and function independently, including demonstrating cooperative behavior and effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to keep the clinical area clean, organized, and safe for patients and staff, including cleaning and disinfecting contaminated instruments, checking patient rooms daily for appropriate supply levels and cleanliness, requesting needed medical supplies, and confining meal taking to an identified break room.
  • Participate in continuing education programs and other opportunities or activities, which contribute to professional growth, including attending required meetings and in-service education programs, participating on committees, maintaining professional certifications, and engaging in continuing education/training.
