Requirements

  • Graduate of a medical assisting program accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP)
  • Successfully completed Medication Aide 40-hour course or current/valid Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Taking vitals
  • Preparing exam rooms
  • Ensuring exam rooms are clean and stocked
  • Calming nervous children and listening to adults
  • Gathering medical histories
  • Preparing patients for their provider
  • Accurately documenting patient information, test results, and treatment plans in the EMR system
  • Collecting specimens
  • Processing lab orders
  • Ensuring accuracy of lab orders and specimens
  • Relaying messages between patients, providers, and other healthcare professionals
