About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant works closely with a primary care physician to deliver excellent patient care within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines. The role reviews and updates health records, measures vital signs, and prepares treatment rooms for examinations. The position is with Mercy Respiratory Specialists at the Executive Parkway Medical Office Building and is scheduled for 40 hours per week on the day shift.

Requirements

• High school degree or GED.
• Active medical assisting certification from an accepted certifying organization is required: CMA, RMA, CCMA, NRCMA, or NCMA.
• If unable to obtain MA certification, Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable, except in South Carolina.
• BLS Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required at hire for Roper St. Francis Healthcare locations; it is preferred at hire and required before independent patient care at BSMH.
• Problem-solving skills and basic computer skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to engage with staff and patients professionally.

Nice To Haves

• One year of medical assistant healthcare experience is preferred but not required.
• Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office is preferred but not required.
• BLS Basic Life Support certification at hire is preferred for BSMH locations.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and community members respectfully and provide excellent customer service.
• Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming visits, verifying that diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date.
• Measure vital signs, including pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height.
• Perform departmental clerical duties, such as checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed.
• Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
