About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant works closely with a physician to deliver excellent patient care, ensuring services are provided within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines. The role reviews and updates health records, measures vital signs, and prepares treatment rooms for examinations. The position is with Mercy Respiratory Specialists at the Executive Parkway Medical Office Building and is scheduled for 40 hours per week on the day shift.

Requirements

• High school degree or GED.
• Active Medical Assisting certification from an accepted organization: CMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), RMA (American Medical Technologists), CCMA (National Healthcareer Association), NRCMA (National Association for Health Professionals), or NCMA (National Center for Competency Testing).
• If unable to obtain Medical Assistant certification, Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable, except in South Carolina.
• BLS Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required at hire for Roper St. Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire and required before independent patient care at BSMH.
• Problem-solving skills, basic computer skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to engage with staff and patients professionally.

Nice To Haves

• One year of medical assistant healthcare experience.
• Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office.
• BLS Basic Life Support certification at hire for BSMH.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and community members respectfully and provide excellent customer service.
• Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming visits, verifying diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date.
• Measure vital signs, including pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height.
• Perform clerical duties such as checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed.
• Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
