About The Position

This position assists the ambulatory care setting physician or other professional healthcare provider with support for patient care and examinations, including exam preparation and lab work. It involves performing basic medical assisting procedures necessary to provide for the care, comfort, and safety of patients. This is a key role serving the community. As a Certified Medical Assistant, responsibilities include showing patients to exam rooms, interviewing them, measuring vital signs, and documenting all information in the Electronic Health Record. The role also requires accurately assessing patient symptoms, reactions, and physical conditions, taking and preparing labs, and communicating with appropriate departments. Additionally, the Certified Medical Assistant will properly set up exam rooms, prepare patients for examinations and procedures, and assist with various medical procedures as per physician/healthcare provider preference. Maintaining knowledge of front office operations and assisting with reception, medical records, scheduling, and billing functions are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant Certification from one of the following organizations: AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA, NHA, NAHP, or NPCE
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 1+ year of previous Medical Assistant experience in a Physician's office

Responsibilities

  • Show patients to exam room, interview patients, measure vital signs (i.e. pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height) and document in Electronic Health Record.
  • Accurately assesses patient symptoms, reactions, and physical condition and records data in the medical record.
  • Take any necessary labs, prepare for pick up and record in the patient electronic health record, communicate with the appropriate departments on protocol for all labs and receiving all information they need for procedures.
  • Properly sets up exam room and prepares patients for examinations and procedures.
  • Assists with procedures and examinations per physician/healthcare provider preference, i.e. gynecological exams, minor surgeries, electrocautery, biopsies, sigmoidoscopies, casting, sterile technique procedures, and specimen preparation.
  • Maintain knowledge and skills of front office operations.
  • Assists as necessary with reception, medical records, scheduling and billing functions of the office.
