About The Position

The Medical Assistant joins the ASAS Health team, performing various duties and responsibilities with an emphasis on quality of care and customer service. This role requires collaborative work with all Clinical services staff to support direct patient services, demonstrating flexibility and a "can-do" attitude. Patient services are the primary focus, with the MA serving as a point of contact for internal and external departments to foster patient comfort and trust. The position demands the consistent exercise of utmost discretion, diplomacy, and tact in patient and staff interactions, embodying the organization's core values and mission.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills at the level necessary for taking patients' medical histories, understanding provider and supervisor’s instructions, and accurately documenting patients' medical information.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patient population and staff while demonstrating a high degree of diplomacy and tact.
  • Beginner to intermediate computing and phone skills.
  • Demonstrates flexibility regarding job duties and assignments.
  • Willingness to cross-train within other departments within your scope of duties.
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a high-stress and fast-moving environment.
  • Culturally sensitive and demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with ethnically diverse populations.
  • Working knowledge of “Universal Precautions” and consistent professionalism.
  • Thorough understanding of the importance of confidentiality and non-disclosure according to the general standards set forth by HIPAA.
  • High school Graduate (or GED) required.
  • Current, valid CPR certification.
  • New hires who join without a current Medical Assistant certification are required to obtain their certification or recertification within 90 days of their start date.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish and other languages strongly preferred.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License preferred, insurance, and ability to travel as required to perform duties.
  • Current, valid Certification of Medical Assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares for patient visits by reviewing and updating patient records prior to face-to-face encounters and/or Virtual Visits (Telehealth), including checking for updates of recent test results, lab results, and correspondence.
  • Maintains exam rooms according to protocols, cleaning rooms between patient exams to ensure comfort and compliance with infection control standards, and ensuring all necessary supplies are stocked.
  • Appropriately prepares patients for a visit and alerts the physician / mid-level provider when the patient is ready to be seen.
  • Provides initial medical screening, which includes greeting patients, directing them to the appropriate exam room, taking weight, height, temperature, blood pressure, and basic medical history, and accurately documenting in the medical chart according to generally accepted medical standards.
  • Assists physician or mid-level providers upon request during the patient's examination according to generally accepted medical standards.
  • Utilizes time constructively and efficiently by assisting in duties such as restocking rooms/shelves/trays, checking supplies, and ensuring that all areas and exam rooms are clean and orderly.

Benefits

  • ASAS will reimburse up to $250 in related expenses for Medical Assistant certification, including $150 for the certification exam and $100 for approved training materials.
