About The Position
SMG Internal Medicine Port Warwick is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant in Newport News, VA. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. The role involves floating when needed, with mileage reimbursement offered. The Certified Medical Assistant performs patient care and administrative/clerical tasks under the supervision of a physician or licensed nurse. Key responsibilities include ensuring patient safety, performing patient care procedures, and handling administrative duties. The role requires objective assessment skills, effective inter-departmental interaction, and adherence to policies and procedures. Efficiency in daily operations and responsible resource utilization are also important.
Requirements
- High School Diploma OR equivalency
- Certified Medical Assistant
- Registered Medical Assistant
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant
- Certified EMT (EMT-B)
- BLS within 90 days of hire date
- Phlebotomy experience Highly Preferred
Responsibilities
- Performs patient care and administrative/clerical related tasks and procedures based on training, education, and competency evaluations, and as delegated by and under the direction/supervision of the Physician, Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (NP/PA), Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
- Provides an environment for safety; identifies, addresses, and incorporates principles of safety for the patient, visitors, and employees.
- Provides patient care tasks and procedures and administrative duties (as appropriate).
- Demonstrates the ability to objectively assess a specific situation from a few viewpoints considers an array of alternatives, assists with the development of realistic action plans and evaluates outcomes.
- Demonstrates the development of the specific skills and knowledge required of medical assistants, effective inter-departmental interactions, and ability to follow department and system policies, procedures, and practices.
- Productive and efficient in daily operations.
- Utilizes appropriate resources that are safe, effective, ethical, and fiscally responsible.
