About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for gathering patient information, communicating with providers, and performing delegated tasks within their scope of practice. This role involves a blend of clerical and direct patient care duties. Clerical tasks include patient reception, appointment scheduling, and maintaining electronic medical records (EMR). Clinical duties encompass preparing patients for examinations, taking medical histories, recording vital signs, preparing exam rooms, explaining procedures, and assisting physicians, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants during patient encounters. The MA plays a key role in facilitating patient flow through the office.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or completion of a Medical Assistant Program.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification awarded through AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA, NAHP, or NHA. (Other certifications require THMG Leadership Approval).
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including use and navigation.
  • Excellent Communication Skills.
  • Excellent Interpersonal Skills.
  • General Clerical Skills.
  • Must be a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Gather patient information, screen patients, and communicate effectively with healthcare providers.
  • Perform clerical duties such as greeting patients, answering telephones, scheduling appointments, and updating patient electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Perform clinical duties including rooming patients, taking medical histories, performing and recording vital signs, preparing exam rooms for procedures, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and facilitating patient flow.
  • Assist the Physician, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant during examinations.
