About The Position

We are seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our team in San Diego, CA. This role involves preparing examination rooms, assisting with patient check-ins and vital signs, performing diagnostic procedures, and maintaining room supplies. For Internal Medicine/Pediatrics, additional duties include operating specific medical equipment, utilizing automated systems like MHS Genesis and Carepoint, assisting providers with examinations and procedures, administering medications and injections, performing venipuncture, and monitoring patients. The schedule is Monday to Friday, with 8.5-hour shifts between 0600 and 1800, with no holidays or weekends required.

Requirements

  • Graduate from a medical assistant training program accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) of the American Medical Technologists or a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces.
  • One year of experience within the last two years as a CMA.
  • Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
  • Possess a current AHA OR ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare examination rooms prior to patient's arrival.
  • Assist with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed.
  • Check patient's vital signs, to include temperature, respiration, pulse, weight, blood pressure, and pulse oximeter reading.
  • Obtain and document patient's current medical history, drug history, chief complaints, allergies and vital signs on the correct form.
  • Perform diagnostic procedures when ordered.
  • Maintain examination room stock levels and perform routine maintenance of examination rooms.
  • Complete lab and x-ray requisitions in accordance with clinic policies.
  • Enter demographic data into the computer upon patient check-in; enter diagnosis and departing time when patient is released.
  • Operate medical equipment such as Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor, Manual Blood Pressure Monitor, Handheld Nebulizer, EKG Machine (12 lead), Electronic Thermometer, IV infusion pump (Set-up only), Tympanometer.
  • Operate and manipulate automated systems such as MHS Genesis and Carepoint.
  • Maintain DOD email account as directed.
  • Be responsive to all message center, email, and voicemail communications.
  • Complete intake form, medication refill/renewal, referrals, booking appointments, checking-in patients, communicating with other members of the healthcare team within MHS Genesis.
  • Assist providers with invasive or non-invasive examinations or procedures.
  • Perform/assist with a variety of ambulatory procedures as ordered by and under the direction of a credentialed provider.
  • Administer oral medications, give subcutaneous, intradermal, and intramuscular injections to patients, and administer immunizations and nebulizer treatments as ordered after completion of required training and demonstration of competency.
  • Make necessary judgments prior to administration of certain medications based on practical knowledge of the physiological effect, current condition of the patient and awareness of proper dosage.
  • Record medications administered.
  • Report and record any reaction to medication and/or treatment.
  • Perform venipuncture for blood draws and intravenous (IV) access after completion of required training and demonstration of competency.
  • Monitor and discontinue IV therapy as directed.
  • Monitor patients undergoing procedures and identify patients in acute distress or with potential for acuity change.
  • Observe significant changes in patients' conditions and report problems that require higher-level actions/interventions to the credentialed provider.
