About The Position

This is a full-time, first-shift position in Sleep Medicine. The Certified Medical Assistant will function as an integral part of the Clinical office staff, performing administrative and clinical duties. Responsibilities include obtaining intake information for a specific patient population, performing delegated tasks and treatments, and providing direct patient care. The role also involves scheduling tests and procedures ordered by the physician and offering limited patient education related to these. The position requires engaging in population-appropriate communication, understanding growth and development milestones, providing clear instructions to patients/families, involving family/guardians in care, identifying and addressing physical limitations, and responding appropriately to behavioral health issues. The Medical Assistant will interpret population-related data, plan care accordingly, and address unique psychological needs or cultural norms. They will perform treatments, administer medications, and operate equipment safely, recognizing and responding to signs of abuse or neglect. The role includes assisting in age-appropriate care, obtaining vital signs, EKGs, and laboratory specimens, assisting providers with documentation in the Electronic Medical Record, preparing and maintaining the clinic area, returning patient telephone calls, and coordinating ancillary services. Maintaining a positive, professional demeanor, a safe and healthy work environment, and patient confidentiality are crucial. The Medical Assistant must understand and adhere to legal responsibilities and requirements, and seek knowledge of quality measures and patient experience.

Requirements

High School Diploma
Graduate of a medical assistant program, minimum required.
Certified or Registered Medical Assistant from AAMA, NHA, NCCT, NCCT, NAHP, ARMA, AMT.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to communicate clearly with patients of all education levels.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to work without close supervision and to set own priorities.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines.
Ability to utilize electronic health record software

Nice To Haves

Seven - eleven months equivalent experience preferred.

Obtain vital signs, EKG's, laboratory specimens and other necessary information as required for proper evaluation of patient in accordance with the Medical Assistant competencies utilizing universal precautions at all times.
Assists the provider in documenting notes, orders and prescriptions by setting them up in the Electronic Medical Record. All documents, prescriptions, and orders will be pended to the provider to review, edit, and sign as appropriate.
Prepare and maintenance of the clinic area to include but not to limited to: cleaning and stocking examination rooms, daily setup and securing of computer (laptops) equipment, and maintenance of diagnostic equipment.
Return routine patient telephone calls such as prescription refills or pre-certification for medication as directed from the Electronic Medical Record with appropriate and timely documentation regarding actions taken.
Coordinate ancillary services such as diagnostic testing/imaging, hospital procedures and/or admission, additional patient visits, and acquisition of pertinent medical records.
Maintain positive, professional and cooperative demeanor throughout all interactions with patients, staff, physicians and members of management.
Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
Understands and adheres to the legal responsibilities and requirements with the medical assistant role.
