About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays an essential role in supporting our surgeons and ensuring every patient receives an exceptional experience at every visit — from consultation to post-operative care. This position requires excellent communication skills, clinical accuracy, empathy, and a passion for helping patients feel confident and cared for. You’ll assist our surgeons and providers with all aspects of patient care, help maintain the clinical flow of our busy practice, and uphold our high standards of safety and excellence.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of clinical experience required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential required (AAMA, AMT, or equivalent).
  • Current Minnesota State Certification as a CMA.
  • Current BLS/CPR Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Greet, room, and prepare patients for their visits with our surgeons and advanced practice providers.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, and pertinent information in the EMR.
  • Assist with minor in-office procedures and post-operative appointments.
  • Educate patients on procedure details, surgical prep, recovery expectations, and care instructions.
  • Support patients with trying on breast implant sizers and reviewing before/after photos.
  • Capture and upload 3D Vectra XT images for surgical consultations (breast, rhinoplasty, etc.).
  • Take standardized pre- and post-operative photographs for patient records.
  • Perform dressing changes, suture removals, drain and catheter removals as directed by the surgeon.
  • Perform ear piercings for post-surgical patients when requested.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and comfort throughout every interaction.
  • Maintain exam room cleanliness, organization, and readiness throughout the day.
  • Sterilize, package, and track instruments in compliance with infection control standards.
  • Monitor and manage inventory of medical supplies, medications, and instruments.
  • Handle patient calls, portal messages, and emails related to post-op care and clinical questions.
  • Process FMLA and disability paperwork for physician completion and patient communication.
  • Manage patient consents and track approvals for before/after photo sharing.
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, RNs, and other CMAs to ensure efficient daily clinic flow.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve processes and patient experiences.
  • Attend team huddles, staff meetings, and continuing education sessions as scheduled.
  • Maintain current clinical certifications and participate in annual competency reviews.
  • Support new team members and contribute to a positive, respectful workplace culture.
  • Represent the values and vision of Edina Plastic Surgery at all times.
