About The Position

Saint James Health is seeking a compassionate and motivated Certified Medical Assistant to join our growing healthcare team. The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting providers and ensuring patients receive high-quality, patient-centered care. This position provides both clinical and administrative support in a fast-paced Federally Qualified Health Center serving diverse patient populations, including adult, pediatric, women's health, and behavioral health patients.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current National Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, CCMA, RMA, or equivalent).
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Experience using electronic medical records (EMR/EHR systems).
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish and/or Portuguese.
  • Prior experience working in primary care, pediatrics, women's health, or a Federally Qualified Health Center.
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examination by obtaining vital signs, medical histories, chief complaints, and medication reconciliation.
  • Perform Point-of-Care testing, including EKGs, glucose testing, Hemoglobin A1c testing, urinalysis, pregnancy testing, and rapid testing for flu, strep, RSV, and COVID-19.
  • Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection as ordered by providers.
  • Process laboratory specimens and assist with tracking and follow-up of results.
  • Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record (EPIC).
  • Prepare and clean examination rooms in accordance with infection control standards.
  • Assist providers and nursing staff during patient visits and procedures.
  • Support preventive care initiatives and quality improvement measures.
  • Coordinate patient flow and rooming activities.
  • Assist with patient scheduling, registration, referrals, insurance verification, and prior authorizations.
  • Manage assigned EPIC work queues and provider in-baskets.
  • Scan, upload, and maintain patient documentation within the medical record.
  • Collect copayments and patient balances when required.
  • Provide front desk coverage and support as needed.
  • Must be able to perform opening and closing responsibilities as assigned.
