The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) performs assigned patient-care and related administrative duties under the direct supervision of a licensed physician, advanced practice registered nurse (APRN), or physician assistant (PA). Specific patient-care responsibilities are assigned by the supervising clinician after competency is established. The role also performs office and clerical duties as assigned by the office manager. The CMA supports clinical care by preparing patients and examination rooms, recording patient information, assisting with examinations and procedures, administering medications and immunizations after demonstrating competency, and documenting care in the medical record. The position also handles patient communications, scheduling, forms, billing-related tasks, and other office duties. This is a non-management position reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.
