About The Position

This position involves performing selected medical assistant and administrative duties to ensure quality patient care and efficient clinic operations. The role requires knowledge of medical practices, examination procedures, and medical equipment, as well as the ability to maintain records, manage supplies, and adhere to quality control standards. The individual will work closely with customer service and physician staff to support patient care and scheduling, and will be responsible for direct patient interaction, including taking histories, vital signs, administering injections, and preparing patients for examinations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of medical practice and the ability to assist in giving patient care.
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Skill in maintaining records and recording test results.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • GED or High School Equivalent.
  • Certification from any Medical Assistant School or two years work experience required.
  • AHA or ARC BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification Required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs selected medical assistant and administrative duties as assigned.
  • Works with Customer Service Representative to ensure quality patient care and scheduling.
  • Works with physician staff to ensure quality patient care.
  • Gives injections.
  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment. Takes patient histories, vital signs, medication history, allergies and immunizations.
  • Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary supplies and instruments.
  • Performs phlebotomies and prepares lab orders for hospital.
  • Applies dressings and conducts pulse oximeter tests.
  • Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization.
  • Assists with scheduling of tests and treatments as requested.
  • Provides general information on departmental policies and procedures as requested.
  • Orders and maintains clinical and office supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains patient files, records and other information, including documentation into patient’s electronic medical record.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
  • Provides appropriate information regarding patient billing information to billing department.
  • Utilizes the practice’s EMR as trained including proper documentation of all procedures performed and all patient education materials provided to patient.
  • Adhere to HIPAA privacy policies and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Assists physicians in retrieving lab and X-ray results as requested.
  • Ensure all patient diagnostic orders are printed and distributed correctly on a daily basis.
  • Maintain all procedure equipment according to company guidelines – including sterilization of equipment.
  • Maintain patient/physician communication daily.
  • Provide excellent patient customer service.
  • Performs related work as requested/required.
