About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse will support Essentia Health’s Podiatry Team, including registered nurses, physicians, and other providers. The role provides direct patient care in an ambulatory care setting and contributes to Essentia Health’s mission and goals. The position is based at Brainerd Clinic in Brainerd, Minnesota, and is scheduled for 32 hours per week, with 8-hour day shifts from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There are no weekend or holiday shifts and no call obligation.

Requirements

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification, or ability to obtain it within three months.
• One of the following credentials: current registration or certification as a Medical Assistant; completion of a Medical Assistant program, with certification required within one year of hire (must pass certification within two attempts); or current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the relevant state.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine assessments, including measuring vital signs, recording patient histories, and observing symptoms to assist with diagnosis and monitoring.
• Support physicians and nurse practitioners during examinations and minor procedures by preparing equipment, assisting with patient positioning, and ensuring proper infection control.
• Administer prescribed medications, including injections and oral medications, monitor for adverse reactions or side effects, and document accurately.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans, and help coordinate follow-up appointments and referrals.
• Conduct patient intake, gather medical histories, update personal information, and prepare patients for examinations or diagnostic testing.
