About The Position

Under general supervision in an outpatient clinical setting, provides initial patient triage, registration and administrative services, assists with direct patient care, and performs specialized medical procedures of a routine nature, as dictated by established clinical protocol.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Medical Assistant Certification
  • 1-2 years’ experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in endocrinology, diabetes care, specialty medicine, primary care, internal medicine, or a high-volume physician practice is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Collect health history and vital sign data and enter into electronic patient record accurately, thoroughly and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate documentation data in electronic patient record.
  • Obtain pertinent labs, x-rays, other tests as needed by the provider to assist with patient care with promptness.
  • Ensure patients’ charts completeness inclusion of previous office visit- dictation and labs, Dexa results with assistance from medical records.
  • Assist with the “check in” process of I 131 patients by making sure the proper correspondence has been signed and noted in patient’s chart. Also ensures correspondence is noted in the “I-131 Log books” that includes the name of the patient and dose.
  • Scans exam room with scintillation probe to ensure it’s free of radiation.
  • Direct patient flow in accordance with provider schedules / pt appointments.
  • Monitor the patients’ wait time and communicate this to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a well-organized work area.
  • Maintain assigned examination rooms, to include apportioning supplies and surface cleaning.
  • Assist with processing of laboratory reports, to include clarifying lab orders made by the provider and forwarding results to patients in a timely fashion.
  • Assist the medical provider with fax communications to other providers /facilities
  • At the direction of the provider, assist in the provision of sample medication or prescriptions and the documentation of such.
  • Teach/Demonstrate proper use of selected glucometer devices to patients and their families at provider request.
  • Monitors productivity.
  • Pull daily reports/ counts on documents signed/ closed in Athena i.e. patient cases, rx refills, lab/imaging, clinical documents and need follow up buckets.
  • Identify workflow inefficiencies and report to immediate supervisor for implementation of workflow resolution.
  • Ensures productivity and workflow is maintained on clinic floor including pediatric clinic.
  • Assist with monitoring of patient flow and identify if a Medical Assistant requires assistance to ensure patients are processed in a timely manner.
  • Reports process improvement and workflow changes to team members in accordance to the DGD policy and/ or Supervisor instructions.
  • Provide guidance and training to new hires and established team members in accordance to DGD policy and/or Supervisor instructions.
  • Provide conflict resolution for minor operational/ patient issues and employee issues.
  • Escalates major operational/ patient/ employee issues to immediate supervisor.
  • Monitor supply inventory for adult and pediatric clinic.
  • Communicates all Medical Assistant time and attendance adherences to the immediate supervisor.
  • Assists with monitoring of time sheets to ensure over time is minimized and identify when overtime should be warranted based on clinic workload.
  • Perform EKG testing in timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist provider with Thyroid Biopsies, to include setting up of supplies, shipment of specimens and append the proper correspondence.
  • Order supplies for Thyroid biopsies to include alcohol filled specimen containers, slides, plastic slide transport containers, Pathology requisition slips and biohazard bags.
  • Assist provider with entering patient’s data into Thyroid sonogram machine.
  • Complete job functions within time allotted (i.e. 8 hour shift).
  • Scheduling daily Medical Assistance/ providers daily closing operation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
