About The Position

UCF Health - Student Health Services (SHS) provides various primary and specialty care services to help keep students, faculty and staff at their optimum health. The Health Center is located on the Main Campus. Our services are designed with students, faculty and staff needs in mind. Become a part of our committed UCF Student Health Team as a Certified Medical Assistant I and deliver outstanding care to our community. The Opportunity: The Student Health Services (SHS) Certified Medical Assistant I position will mainly be responsible for performing physician support services to ensure the care of patients under the oversight of a licensed Physician. Additionally, this position will assist in other areas to meet the needs of UCF Student Health Services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 0+ years of relevant experience.
  • Must be certified as a medical assistant.
  • Adheres to HIPAA (Health Information Privacy Protection Act) guidelines and education.
  • Knowledge of general healthcare practices and medical terminology.
  • All applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position, and the university cannot accommodate H‑1B transfers or employment-based visa processing for individuals currently sponsored by another employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Medical Assisting or ambulatory care experience.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Experience working with Electronic Health Record Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Take and record vital signs and patient statistics.
  • Room patients via the Electronic Medical Record (E.M.R.) for provider visits.
  • Assist providers with physical exams, treatments, and surgical procedures as needed.
  • Administer medications and immunizations as directed.
  • Assist with patient care in Primary Care and Behavioral Health settings.
  • Ensure appropriate patient follow-up care after provider visits.
  • Assist in specialty clinics as directed by the RN Supervisor.
  • Answer telephones as directed by RNs and providers.
  • Check fax equipment for refill requests and test results.
  • Assist with autoclave use and sterilization procedures as needed.
  • Maintain infection control standards.
  • Observe OSHA Blood-borne Pathogens standards and Universal Precautions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient records.
  • Fulfill COVID-related activities in accordance with organizational needs.
  • Stock clinical areas.
  • Keep medical supplies up to date and properly maintained.
  • Complete University and SHS annual training and competencies.
  • Complete required education to maintain professional certification.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager or designee to meet the needs of Student Health Services (SHS).
