About The Position

NaphCare is hiring a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join their team of medical professionals in the Alabama Department of Corrections - St. Clair in Springville, AL. As a Correctional CMA, the individual will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to individuals in residence. This role operates within a controlled environment where security is a top priority and involves various duties such as assisting physicians and other healthcare professionals with examinations, taking patient histories, vital signs, and supporting administrative tasks. It is a unique position offering the opportunity to make a difference to a diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED Certificate
Current Certification as Certified Medical Assistant in AZ
Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening
Ability to stand for long periods
Ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
Ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift

Responsibilities

Performing patient assessments, interviewing patients about current health problems, medication history
Taking vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, and weight
Administering medication (under the direction of a physician)
Providing basic wound care
Performing basic laboratory tests
Assisting providers during patient examinations and procedures
Providing basic patient education and instructions
Scheduling and coordinating patient appointments
Maintaining inventory of medical and office supplies
Answering phones, emails and other forms of communications
