About The Position

The Oncology Clinic at Stony Point is an extension of VCU Health Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center and provides care to surgery and oncology patients. Our nurses cross train into infusion and may also have the opportunity to float to our Breast Health Clinic. We look for new team members that share our passion for oncology nursing and prioritize consistent high-quality patient care. Our clinic hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. No weekends, nights or holidays are required and our team members enjoy free parking onsite at the Stony Point campus. Previous experience in the clinic setting or within oncology and/or infusion specialties is required. The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician.

Requirements

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.
  • One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if individual is not a graduate of a medical assistant program
  • No work experience if individual is a graduate of a medical assistant program
  • Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, e-mail, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant
  • Previous experience in an academic health care environment
  • Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).

Responsibilities

  • Providing direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician.
  • Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure.
  • Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.
