About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and patient care support duties in a medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensures that the office runs smoothly.

Responsibilities

Room patients and collect information regarding chief complaint, family history, social history, surgical history, and medication reconciliation.
Complete telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and healthcare facilities.
Gather and maintain patient information via telephone according to department policies and procedures.
Perform patient check-in and check-out activities.
Complete prior authorizations with insurance companies.
Schedule appointments and verify insurance benefits.
Coordinate referrals and diagnostic testing.
Perform office procedures and department-specific administrative duties.
Assist with urine catheterizations, bladder scanning, suture/staple removal, and cast application/removal as directed by a provider.
Read negative TB skin test results and refer potential positive results to nursing staff.
Perform point-of-care diagnostic testing.
Provide patients with written instructions regarding procedures, medications, and follow-up care.
Provide condition-specific patient education materials as directed by providers.
Administer medications and immunizations per provider orders.
Assist with prescription medication refills according to department protocols.
Call prescriptions into pharmacies and notify patients of refills.
Document actions and patient interactions within the EMR.
Maintain competencies related to point-of-care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training.
Obtain vital signs for patients of all ages.
Set up and assist with medical procedures as directed.
Perform hearing and vision screenings for patients of all ages.
Stock and maintain supplies in exam rooms.
